Fixed Asset Case studie

Cable & Wireless implements Asset4000 to provide functionality lacking in accounts system

Image courtesy of C&WCable & Wireless Seychelles (C&W) has recently implemented Real Asset Management International's Series4000 solution to manage partial disposals and improve reporting on its fixed asset base.

Cable & Wireless is a leading international telecommunications company with customers in 80 countries. For 130 years it has constantly reinvented itself to embrace the latest technological advances to serve its customers' needs. The Seychelles' site employs over 250 people and is located on the three main islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.

The finance team in the Seychelles faced various issues with regards to the management of fixed assets. It used a module within its Sage Line100/MMS system prior to this project but this was not providing enough functionality to meet its requirements. “The three areas of concern were the need to accurately calculate partial disposals, to set the life of assets in months rather than years and to accelerate depreciation on assets,” explained Guy Agrippine, business control analyst at C&W.

Series4000 has provided us with the new functionality we needed and it allows us to be more efficient when managing asset data,” continued Agrippine. “It is far quicker to locate assets and by providing us with new levels of analysis, it is now much easier to reconcile the register to the nominal ledger. Because it has the functionality we lacked in our previous system, it enables us to save valuable administration time. We no longer have to carry out manual calculations to get the information required.

“The interface to Sage Line 100/MMS is an additional benefit,” declared Agrippine. “It saves time having to re-key information, particularly as it is so user-friendly. Series4000 seems to have the flexibility to meet any of our requirements and the different types of reports it can generate have been extremely useful to the management process. The next phase of the implementation will see us start using project management software (Project4000), a module specifically designed to monitor capital projects and work-in-progress assets. The availability of other modules means that we can really develop the asset management system in the future.”

C&W's asset base consists of plant, buildings, cables, air conditioners, furniture, computers and motor vehicles. It is just one of many organizations in the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region using Real Asset Management International's products. Others include Citibank Kenya, Unilever Nigeria, Solectron BV Holland and Saudi American Bank, Saudi Arabia.
